Postpartum Doula

Bringing home a baby is one of the most thrilling and terrifying things a person can experience. Any new parent needs support and help, whether it’s the first baby or the fifth. As a postpartum doula the main goal is to promote mother’s well being so that baby succeeds. There was a time when it was common to have grandparents, aunts, and cousins living close to each other to help. We now live in a culture that does not promote families living in close proximity.

Living in Alaska brings even more distance between family members. It takes more than just a couple hours car drive for family members to meet the tiny new arrival. For those that do not have the support, postpartum doulas can fill the gap.

As postpartum doula Vanessa Priscilla provides support immediately after you give birth. Services include everything from organizing a  Meal Train, assisting with emotional and physical recovery for mom, light house cleaning, running errands, breastfeeding support, helping with newborn care such as diapering, feeding, bathing and comforting, offering breaks for mom to shower/sleep, preparing meals, or activities for older children.

Sold in packages of 16 hours minimum ($400 total). Typically, new mamas find that 4 hour blocks of time at varying points throughout the morning, afternoon, and/or evening are best (if you would like to inquire about a different arrangement, please do so).

First Nights Overnight: a flat rate of $240 for the first 8 hours and a flat rate of $200 for every night afterwards. This can be an excellent way to ensure a smooth transition after birth while welcoming baby into the fold.
